Talkin’ Tarot with Sheilaa Hite

Talkin’ Tarot With is a monthly feature designed to introduce my readers to different tarot readers from our wonderfully diverse community!  Each month, I’ll be asking various tarot readers three questions about their tarot philosophy and style, plus pointing you to their websites and blogs so that you can learn more about them!  I like to hand pick tarot readers that I feel are talented and interesting.

Talkin' Tarot with Sheilaa Hite

Warm, talented, kind, truthful, and intuitive. When people talk about Sheilaa Hite, those are some of the first words that pop out of their mouths. I’ve known Sheilaa for years and frankly, there are not enough positive adjectives in the dictionary to describe this wonderful member of the Tarot community.

I met Sheilaa years ago at a tarot conference and was immediately drawn to her. Luckily, I was also able to attend her mainstage class a few years later – and I still use her techniques to this day. Sheilaa is a respected teacher and many others who have been fortunate enough to work with her sing her praises. The media does as well. She’s consistently listed as one of the top psychics and astrologers in America with an accuracy rate of over 95%.

When she’s not teaching or reading Tarot, she’s busy making charms, writing, blessing homes, leading retreats all over the world, or being a featured guest on popular television shows such as “Entertainment Tonight.”

Sheilaa Hite describes herself as “a modern-day Alchemist — a catalyst of the soul and mind, a life skills mentor, a ‘somewhere over the rainbow’ visionary with a gift for knowing and teaching the practical, down-to-earth processes necessary to make dreams come true.” I couldn’t agree more. Head over to her website and get a taste of the magic right here.

Q: What is your philosophy about tarot reading?

Sheilaa: My philosophy about reading the Tarot is the same philosophy I have for the other areas and interests in my life– to bring as much clarity, hope, joy, healing, empowerment, and purpose to those I’m fortunate enough to interact with.

As a Tarot Master, modern-day Alchemist, and intuitive detective, I use the Tarot along with my inherited visionary gifts and skills in a practical, down-to-earth manner in order to get to the truth of any situation.

The Tarot is one of the power tools I use to help my clients as I sort through all of the energy, clues, and evidence seeking the resolutions to their dilemmas. A problem is an opportunity to grow, to know more, and to transform. I’ve found that if I approach the problems and issues from that perspective, I’ll find out the “why” of the issues and be able to deliver empowerment as well as answers to my Tarot clients.

I consider my work with the Tarot to be a part of my soul commitment to assist and guide my clients to their birthright of joy, abundance, and remembrance of the gift they were created to be. I do all I can to honor that commitment and the people who entrust me with their hearts to help them through what are very often trying times in their lives.

I love my work, I love that I’ve been chosen to do it, and I love that I’m good at it. Helping people to be happy and feel empowered makes me happy. Life is a grand adventure and we are meant to enjoy and grow from the experience.

Q: How do you feel a client might get the most out of a reading with you?

Sheilaa: By sitting in front of you for a Tarot reading, the client has already demonstrated a certain amount of trust in you and your abilities, which is important if they’re going to be able to discern if there’s truth in what you’re telling them.

I explain to my clients how I work and what I expect from them in order to be of the utmost service to them during the session. I let them know that we’re both equally important to the process. I want them to ask questions, even mundane ones like, “Why do you use two different Tarot decks for my reading?” I want them to feel free to make comments whenever they come up during the reading, too. I explain that when they’re working with me, there’s no such thing as interrupting. A question or comment comes up for a reason. It’s best to voice it when it does.

I sometimes have to explain that what I do is not a game. It’s not “20 questions” or “stump the reader.” We’re both involved in the process of getting to the solution and if they don’t respect the process, they’ll leave the session with only a portion of the information they could have had.

I encourage them to write down the reasons they want to see me– no long drawn out sentences– just a word or two about the person, issue, or problem. That way they don’t forget to ask something important to them and, I find that when they write, something equally as important that they hadn’t thought of before comes to the surface.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for an aspiring Tarot reader?

Sheilaa: The best advice I can give to someone who aspires to be a Tarot reader is to find a good teacher who’s demonstrated that they are secure in their knowledge of the Tarot. Often, that teacher can be someone you’ve had a reading with if you like their style and manner of relating to you and the cards. If that reader doesn’t teach, ask them for a recommendation of someone who does.

Dedicate yourself to learning the keywords, phrases, and meanings of the cards. This is a must. And then, no matter what you’ve learned about the keywords, phrases, and meanings of the cards, if your senses tell you something different– always trust your senses.

And of course, practice, practice, practice! You won’t have to worry about finding free practice clients, either. Friends, relatives, and even once when I was on a plane, a flight attendant, will want to know more about the most important person in their lives– themselves! Many social media platforms have Tarot groups or forums you can join. The only drawback to the groups and forums will be occasionally encountering someone who is negative or abusive. Unfortunately, in life, it happens. Don’t take it personally. If you encounter someone like that– move on. As in all areas of life, don’t give your energy to unworthy people or situations.

Trust that once you’ve learned the basics, you’ll continue to learn something new every time you pick up the cards. Working with the Tarot is exciting, organic, delightful, and infinitely rewarding.
